Geagte ouers

Gr 10- en 11-leerders woon huidiglik slegs elke tweede week skool by.

Groete

MNR SE Bouwer

Dear parents

I would like to take the opportunity to share with you the following information regarding our sustained efforts to ensure that teaching is taking place as optimally as possible during these challenging times.

Gr 12 learners

Firstly, I would like to assure you that before the start of the trial examinations in September, our grade 12 learners will have completed the complete teaching plan in all of their subjects. We are one of the few schools countrywide that wrote a preparatory exam in August. To you as a parent, this exam serves as an indication of your child’s progress and readiness to face the final examination successfully. Furthermore, this examination has also been useful in the sense that learners that have not been in an exam situation for many months, could write in exam circumstances in order to pinpoint possible shortcomings that need to be addressed.

The departmental trial exams are scheduled to start on Monday, 14 September 2020 to Monday, 12 October.
It is essential that all matriculants attend school from Tuesday, 13 October 2020 to Friday, 16 October 2020, seeing that trial exam question papers will be handed out and discussed.
It is also important to note that the first final exam question papers will be written in the third week of October already (Life Orientation on 19 October 2020, and on 22 October, Computer Application Theory Paper I and Information Technology Paper I.)

The possibility of our annual matric church service on 16 October 2020 is still under consideration, depending on Covid-19 restrictions.

Gr 10 and 11 learners

Grade 10 and 11 learners have been attending school every second week. The management of the school has considered it advisable that from next week (30 August to 3 September) compulsory afternoon classes be offered in order to optimally utilize available time for classroom-based teaching.

Mondays and Wednesdays will be used for the assessment programme according to a timetable which will be introduced to the learners on Monday, 31 August. (Mathematics has already been scheduled for Monday and the learners have been informed accordingly.)

Tuesdays and Thursdays will be utilized for normal academic periods which will be running from 14:15 to 16:00.

Grade 8 and 9 learners

Grade 8 and 9 learners thus also attend school every alternative week. In certain subjects, extra classes in the afternoons may be introduced in the future. We will, however, inform you timeously when this is set to happen.

During September you will receive the necessary documents to assist Gr 9 parents and learners in their selection of choosing subjects for grade 10.

We are busy assessing all learners’ academic progress and remedial steps will be taken where required.

Piet Retief High School has managed to return our learners safely to classrooms before many other schools and we can therefore assure you that we will easily manage to comply with departmental requirements for 2020. We do, however, want to ensure that the core content of the year is adequately covered so that in 2021, our learners will not be negatively impacted by the challenges of this year.

At the end of this year, all grade 8 −11 learners will be writing an examination/ test series. The scope of these exams/ tests will be on all of the work successfully completed during the available time. This examination will determine the promotion of learners at the end of the year.

We would like to assure you that the academic progress and achievement of learners remain our priority and we will do everything we can to support them in these challenging times.

Greetings

Mr SE BOUWER
